When you buy a fruit or veggie toy from Under the Nile, you are directly contributing to the empowerment of women entrepreneurs participating in our 13 Villages Project. Through this project, impoverished women have been able to learn how to sew our fruit and veggie toys and have established their own small businesses, using our organic upcycled cloth scraps and selling the finished toys back to us.
Many women in the villages of Sharkeya, Egypt are unable to leave home to look for work due to family responsibilities. We’ve solved this problem by bringing the work to them.
Now they are learning a trade and earning an income by creating our fruit and veggie toys. The results of the project have been incredible— the women feel a sense of self-worth and empowerment, and their villages are proud of them.
