A mom on a mission
In 1998, a mom in California set out to find clothes for her daughters that wouldn’t irritate their sensitive skin with chemicals or toxic colorants. It proved to be a bigger challenge than she realized. At the time there were few options for organic baby and kids clothing and even fewer that were both healthy and beautiful. That’s when the idea for Under the Nile was born.
With a fashion degree and a desire to make beautiful, sustainable, and affordable organic clothes for her kids and children everywhere, she set off to Egypt– home of the world’s softest and highest quality cotton.
Partnering with SEKEM: the perfect match
While in Egypt, she came across a company called SEKEM – a group of farmers, artisans, engineers, and dreamers who were bringing life to the desert by growing and harvesting organic biodynamic cotton in a sustainable and ethical way. She was amazed by their commitment to both people and the environment, and inspired by their incredible contributions to the holistic development of Egypt.
Their visions matched perfectly and for 25 years they worked together to create sustainable hand crafted products for babies, kids, and homes.
As of 2023, this mom has retired to spend more time with her family (including her three-year-old grandson!) and she has put Under the Nile fully into SEKEM’s loving hands.
Our mission and our promise remains the same: providing beautiful, affordable, sustainably sourced products for you and your loved ones– now straight from the source.
