A Mom with a Mission!

Under the Nile is proud to be a sustainable small business that is family owned and powered by female innovation! Janice Masoud is known around here as the "Mom with a Mission." In the early 1990s, there was virtually no organic baby clothing industry. She worried about the harm that could be done to her growing children by chemicals and pesticides used in conventional, non-organic cotton. She knew that if she wanted a trustworthy selection of safe, organic baby clothes, other parents must want it too. Innovation became determination and Under the Nile was born!

Janice and her husband, Mohamed, worked hard together to develop their vision for a very unique organic cotton clothing company. The journey began in a search for the perfect source for 100% pure organic cotton.

There's no place like home

Mohamed, originally from Egypt, was familiar with the thousands year old tradition of cotton agriculture and production. He also knew that Egyptian cotton is still regarded as one of the highest quality products in the world. The uniquely long fiber length gives Egyptian cotton silky soft feel, breathable, lightweight and extra durable qualities.

Janice and Mohamed searched far and wide, and finally found the perfect partner in Egypt - Sekem. Sekem is deeply committed to social and environmental sustainability, just like Under the Nile. All cotton grown in 100% Egyptian organic, and every product is made right there on the fair trade farm where the cotton was grown! In fact, in 2015 Sekem won The Land for Life Award, for "outstanding commitment to combating soil erosion and protecting soil fertility through sustainable agriculture in Egypt."

We are family

Under the Nile has built a philosophy based on families. We believe that the families who product our product are as important as the families that purchase them. In every stage of our product, from cotton seed to customer, each and every item is made with both you and our community in mind.

Over the last 18 years, Under the Nile has built a vast network of like minded people who want to bring positive change to the apparel industry. We are all part of an ethical community that take pride in our work everyday to fulfill Janice's original mission of sustainability.

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

Here's to the next 18 years (and more!) of Under the Nile! Because of loyal customers, like you, who share our love for the planet and all people, we're able to continue making big changes to the world with this small business!

Thank you for supporting small businesses like Under the Nile!
