How did we come up with these awesome new designs? Funny you should ask…
As the horizon sparkled with the warm golden rays of the midday sun, Janice sat in the back seat of a four-wheel drive, bouncing and swaying with each bump and turn of the rickety vehicle, struck by the beauty of the scene around her. Graceful long-necked giraffes, big wrinkly rhinos, and stately zebras grazed and lounged in the vibrant green grass and under shady oak trees.
But even more striking to her than these grand and easy-to-spot wonders, were the smaller participants in this vast yet delicate ecosystem. As the tour guide of the wildlife conservatory explained the fact that they had over 90 different species, her eyes were drawn from the bigger animals to the smaller creatures—the little birds chirping atop the rhinos and the chameleons scaling the trees, much harder to spot because of their camouflage.
That’s when the idea for Under the Nile’s brand new Spring/Summer 2016 collections, Baby Birds and Curious Chameleons, was born. CEO and designer Janice Masoud wanted to incorporate the fresh, bright colors and liveliness of the tiny safari creatures into a line that was cute, comfy, and versatile for your tiny one. The new Summer Poplin group features breezy poplin pieces, cool against the skin on warm days under the sun.

We’ve also added some even brighter rugs to our best-selling Scrappy Rugs collection, made with baby’s healthy development in mind. Hand-loomed with leftover scraps from our clothing production, our rugs are just as soft and even more colorful, perfect for playing and growing. These are in limited supply and go really fast! It is well known that visual stimulation is extremely important for a baby’s brain development, particularly stripes and contrasting colors. So even while baby is having fun, the mind is working too!
